Michael was an only child and the apple of his parents eye. With his mother's dark hair and his father's bright eyes, the boy could do no wrong. It didn't even matter that he was a quick study, playing the part of a sponge. He wanted to learn everything and they wanted to teach him everything. The only real problem was how he stopped bothering with things so quickly. His attention span was all over the place. Not having any other children to realize it, or knowledge in children besides general points, they just believed that it was part of his personality. It became a normal point in their life. During his annual checkup, it came to quite the surprise that little Michael's doctor wanted to have the boy tested. Not for defects or problems, but because he thought that the little two year old boy was acting far above his own age. That his attention span might have been out of place, but also because the boy seemed to be able to handle so many tasks at once, understand them, and become bored with them.
Completely floored by what he noticed in Michael, he explained to his parents that he believed him to be at a genius level for a two year old and later diagnosed him with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Where his father refused to believe there was anything deemed imperfect with his son, his mother became more worried. Choosing not to go the way of medication, his mother worked with him, day by day. Extra prayers were given, herbal remedies, anything she could come up with.
Once Michael had become school age, he never made the best grades. He needed extra help, actually, but it wasn't because of his inability to understand the information. It was because he was unable to focus. Not all of his teachers were willing to help him through this and saw what he did as more of an issue with his personality. He became seen more as a troublemaker at times, fidgeting with his pencil or bringing toys from home. His attention not on the material, but on most anything else, including talking in class. Uncertain what to do, his mother nearly took him out of school and was set to homeschool him. It was his father that stepped in, being against this. He needed to have what he deemed a normal childhood. That these were the types of things that taught a boy to become a man. This became one of those lectures that Michael heard a lot growing up.
Teenage years came and went, feeling less and less special. Michael didn't want to play sports, but did enjoy running. Unwilling to give up his free time though, to take part in Track & Field, he ignored his father's own protests. Hanging out with friends was more important. It was only at his mother's urgency that he looked into college. His only options were work or school, as far as his parents were concerned. His mother wanting more for her son, even more after having given up so much of her time and effort with him.
Not gaining any special scholarships or grants, he started out at community college. His first few weeks felt like hell. It was so much worse than even high school. Larger classes and more information to take in. Speaking to his mother, he ended up believing that maybe medication was the way to go or at least try. Supporting him in that decision, he did try it and found himself opened up to a whole new world. Calling her and explaining that he was so excited over talking to her, she didn't seem to understand. It was because he wasn't doing three things at once, but only talking to her and having his full attention on their conversation, that he was excited over.
Grades skyrocketing, he did well for himself, but still found himself bored to no end by the end of the year. He couldn't understand how people normally lived like this. All this focus all leading to pure boredom. During the summer, he believed that he was going to quit school and just work. Michael didn't last a month before changing his mind and signing up for more classes in the fall.
During the summer of his sophomore year, he began sending out applications to a few colleges. There were high hopes, but nothing too high. He knew how his transcripts looked from high school. Yes, they had come far, from the average student, especially for what he chose his major to move into. Grinnell College in Iowa though, heard his call and wanted to give him a chance there. He took it with open arms, right down to the point of a grant for his out of state tuition.
Living in Iowa, there wasn't as much for him. Michael began taking his medication only for classes and not during weekends, unless he was studying or working on a project. If his focus wasn't needed at all times, he didn't want to give it. This actually aided Michael in doing more than curing his boredom, but his outlook. It even allowed him to look at things with a whole different perspective and gain ideas that he never before found himself able to catch up on. Upon graduation, he ended up gaining acceptance into Princeton University and finished up his doctorate there.
Enjoying his time on the east coast, he stayed, finding job offers down in Massachussetts. Life has been nothing but a circle of his work. The need to get ahead and do more than just make a name for himself anymore. He wanted to make a difference.
Pseudo-Vampirism:Morbius has been transformed into a being similar to a vampire and, as a result, possesses a number of superhuman abilities similar to those possessed by true vampires (including by not limited to having to feed on blood). However, Morbius isn't a true vampire as the source of his transformation is scientific, not mystical (leaving him immune to most vampiric vulernabilities. He is unaffected if confronted with religious icons and will not incinerate if exposed to direct sunlight. Morbius does tend to rest during the hours of the day but most supernatural vampires fall into a dormant, death-like state during the day. Though he does rest, he doesn't have to line his sleeping area with soil from the land of his birth whereas supernatural vampires must do so otherwise they're unable to travel more than 100 miles. Morbius has no special vulnerability to objects of weapons composed of silver. While he can be injured by weapons made of silver, he'll heal normally as he would from other injuries whereas injuries inflicted by silver on supernatural vampires take much longer for them to heal from, if they're not killed outright. Morbius also won't be killed by having a wooden stake driven through his heart.) The one true weakness Morbius has that supernatural vampires possess is that he must ingest fresh blood several times a week in order to maintain his physical and mental vitality. The longer he goes without blood, the weaker he becomes and the more likely he is to lose control. Superhuman Strength: Morbius possesses super-human strength (the extent of which depends on the amount of blood he has ingested and the type of blood). At his peak, Morbius possesses sufficient superhuman strength to lift approximately 1,500 lbs. Superhuman Speed: Morbius can run and move at speeds that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete. Superhuman Stamina: Morbius' enhanced musculature produces less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the musculature of a normal human. He can physically exert himself at peak capacity for several hours before the build up of fatigue toxins in his blood begins to impair him. Superhuman Agility: Morbius' agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete. Superhuman Reflexes: Morbius' reflexes are similarly enhanced and are superior to those of the finest human athlete. Superhuman Acute Senses: Morbius' senses of sight and smell are enhanced to levels well beyond that of normal humans. Morbius is able to detect objects with perfect clarity at much greater distances than a normal human. He retains this clarity, even in near-total darkness. He is also able to see into the infra-red end of the electromagnetic spectrum, allowing him to see individuals at night by their body heat. His sense of smell is similarly enhanced, able to detect the scent of blood in the air from miles away. Regenerative Healing Factor: Also, like true vampires, Morbius possesses an accelerated healing factor that enables him to rapidly regenerate damaged bodily tissues much faster and more extensively than a normal human. Injuries such as gunshots, slashes, and severe burns, within hours or minutes, depending upon their severity. Though highly developed, Morbius' healing powers aren't sufficient to regenerate missing limbs or organs. Fangs & Claws: Like supernatural vampires, Morbius possesses elongated canines that he uses to pierce the flesh of other beings for the purpose of consuming their blood. Morbius can also, however, use his fangs as weapons in very close combat situations. He also possesses a single retractable claw at the tip of each finger. The claws are very sharp, capable of rending human flesh and bone with ease. Psionic Gliding: Through mental concentration, Morbius is able to glide through the air over short distances. However, Morbius can only glide at speeds of about 35 miles an hour. While he can run faster than that, Morbius can use this ability while flying over rooftops. Mesmerism: Like true vampires, Morbius can hypnotize others if they look directly into his eyes long enough. While under his control, Morbius typically has full control over an individual. If an individual has sufficient willpower, they can resist or overcome this power. Vampire Creation: Like true vampires, Morbius is able to transform individuals into pseudo-vampires like himself by draining them of all their blood. Morbius has control over the pseudo-vampires he creates, just as supernatural vampires have mental control over the vampires they create. The ones Morbius creates possess superhuman strength but they don't have accelerated healing powers. Upon receiving lethal injuries, their bodies turn to dust.
