alone

The coast was clear, as far as his own senses could tell. Voices could be heard inside a room behind him, the dark skies as bright and visible as if it were day for him. Just in another light, much like that infrared. Bodies were viewed in a different means. The pounding of hearts, it all led him to question what was really going on. He knew and recalled all that Jemma had told him, and had all of these memories that did not add up. Whatever it was, whomever he was, he wasn't like her. Whatever it was, he didn't know for sure that he wanted it. There was this feeling in the pit of his stomach that things would only get worse, and in retrospect that entire feeling? It left him to not want to be alone, yet more so. There was supposed to be that safety in numbers, but no one was ever safe. Yes, he had wandered off from his group, sneaking out into the night that called to him. In the end, it could have been any of them or a direct attack on all of them. He was the one without any fighting skills. Simply left with whatever had suddenly decided to make an appearance. These new senses and his ability to glide. Phone in hand, giving him some form of navigation.

Putting it to the test, he left the group as they had split up and went their own ways to head home. Sitting in that truck on the way to New York City, he was just overwhelmed with the freedom he now had. Finding the tallest building he could gain roof access to without causing a stir, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Everything felt like it should be overwhelming him, but not here. This was just what he needed. One foot lifted onto the ledge, and then the other. Wind pushing against him, the rush was there without even jumping.

Legs pushed off and away from the building and it left him with a feeling like one where he was falling and flying all at once. Dropping down until something in him seemed to trigger a steadiness. Arms out wide, he smiled fully, taking in everything before opening his eyes. It was a strange feeling, that came, from all of this but still exhilarating. It was nothing like skydiving or bungee jumping. Following the streets first, he made a point of continuing on, pushing for speeds and climbing higher. The last thing he wanted to do was to be seen and caught. To become some sort of experiment gone wrong for someone else.

The urge to call out and just enjoy the moment was hard to pass up. His voice kept quiet though, no point in having bugs flying into his mouth either. The further and faster he traveled, it would still take him six hours to make it anywhere near home. A means of getting there just before the crack of dawn. His head would ache and pound with more and more images as he began to accept this means of life. Fear and worry over the pain and the deep ache in his stomach and chest over the downfalls to these benefits. Things that would be to come later, but who could be sure of the when?

Pain and the barrage of images, memories hit him and caused his speed to drop, even leave him tumbling in the air for a few seconds before he realized what had happened. One word hitting him harder than the rest. One pair of bright red orbs staring at himself through the darkness, resonating through his own soul. Morbius.
